Friend.
The mornings are the hardest part.
I wake up
and for a moment
everything is normal.
Only a moment.
And then it arrives.
Quietly.
The way it does
every single day.
The light comes in
the same way it always did.
The house makes
the same small sounds.
And I lie there
trying to remember
how to begin.
I did not know
a morning
had to be rebuilt
every day.
So I start small.
One thing.
Then another.
And somehow
the day begins.
