I am learning
how to cook for one.
It sounds simple.
It is not.
Every recipe
is made for more.
Every pot
is too big.
I make too much
and stand there
looking at it.
Or I make too little
and the plate
looks lonely.
I cooked for two
for so many years.
Cooking was
one of the ways
I said
I love you.
And now
there is no one
to say it to.
So some nights
I skip it.
And some nights
I set the table anyway.
I am still learning
how to feed
just myself.
It is slow.
But I am trying.
